Token board for teletherapy: Zoom and Google Meet step by step

By Natalia Jakubczyk-Gajewska · Last updated:

In teletherapy the token board runs on the therapist's screen and is shared with the child through the video call. The therapist taps the tokens, the child watches the board fill, and the celebration shows on both sides. One honest limit: the board runs only on your screen; the child cannot tap it remotely.

Open the board

Before the session

  1. Open token-board.app in its own browser window or tab.
  2. Set the title, the reward and the number of slots with the 🎨 Style button under the board; show the reward to the child when the call starts.
  3. Check the sound switch behind the 🎨 Style button under the board if you want the token tone.
  4. Keep your notes in a different window, so they are never shared.

Zoom

  1. Click Share Screen.
  2. Pick the browser window with the board (or the whole screen if you switch between windows).
  3. Tick Share sound at the bottom of the share dialog so the token tone reaches the child.
  4. Click Share, then tap the slots as the child earns tokens. The child sees each token pop in.

Google Meet

  1. Click Present now (or Share screen).
  2. Choose A tab and pick the token board tab. Keep Share tab audio on; Meet sends sound only when you share a tab.
  3. Click Share. You can return to the Meet tab; the board tab stays presented.

Tips

  • Second window: keep the board small next to the video so you see the child while you tap.
  • Fullscreen: press Fullscreen on the board before sharing the whole screen; the slots get bigger and the child sees nothing else.
  • Chromebook: works in Chrome; share the tab as above.
  • iPad: open the board in Safari, start the screen share in the Zoom or Meet app, then switch to Safari. Tab audio is not shared from an iPad, so say the praise out loud.
  • The child cannot tap: let the child say "star!" or hold up a hand, and you tap for them.

Also available as an app: Token Board: ABA Reward Chart for iPhone, iPad and Mac keeps a separate board per child or activity, with 3 to 100 tokens and photo rewards.

Quick answers

Can the child tap the token board from their side?

No. The board runs only on the therapist's screen and is shared through the video call. The child earns the token, you tap it, and both of you see it fill.

Does the token sound reach the child?

Yes, if you turn on sound sharing: "Share sound" in Zoom, or share a Chrome tab with "Share tab audio" in Google Meet. Without it, say the praise out loud.

Open the board, then share the tab

Set the reward and the slots first, start the screen share with sound, and tap as the child earns.
